A Comparative Examination of Stress and Quality of Life in Parents of Autistic and Non-Autistic Children.
Emma O’Donnell is a final year student in the BA in Humanities (Psychology Major) programme at Dublin City University (DCU). As part of her Final-Year Project, Emma is carrying out an independent research project- A Comparative Examination of Stress and Quality of Life in Parents of Autistic and Non-Autistic Children.
Emma is conducting the study to gain experience in psychological research and to contribute to understanding parents’ experiences in Ireland, with an emphasis on how stress and quality of life may be affected by parents’ gender, age, marital status, and the number of children in the household. The purpose of the study is to examine if parents of an Autistic child/children experience significant differences in levels of parental stress and quality of life. You can participate in this research if you are a parent of a child, if you are aged over 18 and live in Ireland. You must be able to complete an online survey.
If you agree to participate, you will complete an anonymous online survey. This includes some demographic questions such as your gender, age, marital status and the number of children in your household. You will also be asked if you have an Autistic child. Following this, you will be asked some questions about your experiences as a parent and about your quality of life. The survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
You do not have to take part in this study. Participation is entirely voluntary, and you are free to withdraw at any time before submitting your responses, without explanation. However, because the survey is anonymous and no identifying information is collected, it will not be possible to withdraw your data once it has been submitted.
If you have any questions about any aspect of the survey, you can contact the researcher (Emma O’Donnell) at emma.odonnell32@mail.dcu.ie or the study supervisor, Dr. Catherine Moran, at catherine.moran@dcu.ie.
