Research into challenges, crisis and support needs of autistic and/or disabled children and young people – A survey for parents, carers and guardians.

Please read the below information regarding research that you may wish to participate in:
The National Disability Authority (NDA) have been asked by the Department of Children, Disability and Equality to conduct research on crisis situations experienced by autistic and/or disabled children and young people and their families in order to better prevent, intervene and manage these crisis situations in Ireland.
This research is outlined in Action 83 of the Autism Innovation Strategy (2024), but it is about children and young people with any disability not just autistic children and young people.
This survey is one element of the research and it is targeting:
- Parents/carers or guardians of children and young people up to age 23 who are autistic, and/or disabled (e.g. have an intellectual disability, or a mental, emotional or psychological conditions), and
- Who have experienced, or have been close to experiencing, a crisis related to caring for their child or young person.
The NDA are doing this research to learn more about the kinds of challenges that autistic and disabled young people sometimes face, especially when things get really hard or feel like a crisis. They want to understand what kind of support young people and their families need and what services work well – or don’t work well – during those times. The aim is to help inform improvements to support services for children and families.
Please do not complete this survey if you are currently in crisis or in a state of acute distress as we are unable to provide you with direct support.
If you would like to take part in this research, please click here. The survey will take 15-30 minutes to complete depending on your answers.
