The Colour of Pain: Co-designing a Colourised Version of the Wong Baker Faces Pain Scale.

Please read the below information regarding research that you may wish to participate in:

Katie Curran is a final year undergraduate student in psychology at the University of Galway and is conducting a research study as a part of her course. This research is supervised by Prof. Brian McGuire and Dr. Helena Lydon, alongside researcher Dr. Rachel Fitzpatrick.

This research study will be done by conducting focus groups in the University of Galway School of Psychology with children aged 7-12, both with autism and without autism, as well as with the parents/caregivers of participating children. Each focus group is approximately 45 minutes long, and care will be given to ensure that the children’s focus group is fun and engaging for participants, including fun activities as a part of the data collection.

The aim of this study is to find out if children (with and without autism) believe the Wong Baker FACES Pain Rating Scale (pictured on the attached flyer) would be more understandable/ easier to use if it had colours, and if so, which colours they believe should be used.

If you have any questions any questions or need further information about this research, please contact Katie Curran at k.curran9@universityofgalway.ie
