FamilySleeps: Investigation of circadian rhythms and sleep in families: a focus on autism.
Professor Lorna Lopez in the Department of Biology in Maynooth University is conducting a research study called “FamilySleeps” which explores the link between sleep, genetics and autism. The researchers hope to understand the role genetics play in this and ultimately find ways to improve sleep and quality of life for families with autistic children.
Who can participate in the study?
- Families with at least two children aged 6–10, where one child has an autism diagnosis
- Families with at least two children aged 6–10, with no autism diagnosis
What will participants have to do?
- Wear an activity watch
- Place a sleep sensor in your child’s bedroom
- Provide saliva samples so the researchers can look at your genes
- Complete sleep questionnaires
Where will the study take place?
Everything can be done in your own home with the guidance of the researchers. However, all participants must be based in the Republic of Ireland.
