Benefits and Barriers to Exercise Participation for Autistic Post Primary Students in Ireland.

Aoife Rosney is a primary school teacher and is completing an MA in Autism Studies in Mary Immaculate College. Aoife is conducting a research study on the “Benefits and Barriers to Exercise Participation for Autistic Post Primary Students in Ireland” under the supervision of Jill Mc Canney & Kayren Hayes (Middletown Centre for Autism)

The purpose of this study is to examine autistic teenagers’ experiences of exercise participation. It is hoped that information derived from this study about accommodations and resources that can be used to make exercise more inclusive for all, thus providing major benefits to the autistic community.

Aoife would like to speak to autistic post- primary students aged between 12- 18 to discuss their experiences of exercise to date and how they feel it could become more inclusive as a society in terms of exercise participation.

Interviews will take place on MS Teams and questions will be sent a week in advance to participants. Participants will remain completely anonymous and are free to withdraw from this research at any stage – even after the interview has been complete.

If you would like your child to participate in the above research, please read the Parent Information Pack and the Participant Information Pack here for further information.

If you have any questions about this research study, please contact Aoife via her Mary Immaculate College e-mail address: 24601361@micstudent.mic.ul.ie
