Research Study

Exploring the current levels of physical activity and mental health among autistic adults.

Please read below information regarding research that you may wish to participate in:

A research team, which consists of Hollie Storey, Dr Jumana Ahmad, Dr Claire Rossato, and Dr Trevor Thompson at the University of Greenwich, as well as Dr Bethany Oakley at King’s College London are conducting a research project on exploring the current levels of physical activity and mental health among Autistic adults which will form part of a PhD thesis on the University of Greenwich Health and Human Sciences programme.

The aim of the study is to survey Autistic adults about their current physical activity levels, preferred modes of physical activity, and current mental health status, which will include levels of anxiety, depression, and quality of life. They will compare the physical activity and mental health measures between three adult age categories (young adults, middle-aged adults, and older adults) and will also look to see if there is a relationship between physical activity levels and levels of anxiety, depression, and quality of life and if age is a moderating factor within this relationship.

You can participate in this study if you have an Autism diagnosis (either clinical or self-diagnosed) and are between 18-65. The researchers are looking for participants who are fluent in English and are free from illnesses and/or injuries that would limit physical activity.

Participants will be asked to complete a survey (either electronically or via pen and paper) related to their Autistic characteristics, current physical activity levels, preferred physical activities, and mental health status.

If you have any questions, please contact Hollie Storey at h.a.storey@gre.ac.uk.
