An exploration of the journey to an adult Autism diagnosis in Ireland.
Please read below information regarding research that you may wish to participate in:
Tara Geraghty is a Psychologist in Clinical Training, in the final year of the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Programme in the University of Galway. Tara is currently conducting a research project under the supervision of Dr. Anne O’ Connor. The purpose of this research is to explore the experiences of autistic adults who received an Autism diagnosis in adulthood (i.e. age 18 years and over), within Ireland, either through a private service or through the public service (i.e., HSE).
If you decide to participate in this study you will be asked to sign a Consent Form. You will then be asked a series of questions about your experiences of receiving an Autism diagnosis in adulthood and what that was like for you. You will be given the interview questions in advance of the interview.
This is an exploratory study and so the researchers are interested in your views. You will be given the option to decide whether you would like the researcher to conduct the interview over the phone, over a secure online platform (e.g., Zoom, WebEx or MS Teams) or if you would like to conduct the interview in person, in which case a venue can be arranged that is convenient and suitable for you. The interview will be recorded with your permission so that the researcher can then transcribe the interview. Following transcription, the recording will be destroyed. The interview is expected to take approximately one hour. You are free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason.
If you require any further information regarding this research. Please contact Tara Geraghty at T.Geraghty13@universityofgalway.ie or Tara’s supervisor Dr Anne O’Connor at aoconnor@universityofgalway.ie.
