Autism Bill

The Irish Society for Autism is delighted to fully support the Regional Group of Independent TDs in progressing the Autism Bill.

In a year that marks the 25th anniversary of the European Charter of Rights for Persons with Autism being signed and passed by the European Parliament, it was the Irish Society for Autism’s goal to bring the Autism Bill back to the attention of Government for Autism Awareness Day 2021 and ensure it’s progression through the Dáil. The European Charter of Rights for Persons with Autism was co-authored by the Executive Director of the Irish Society for Autism, Dr. Pat Matthews.

The Irish Society for Autism corresponded with over 50 TDs for Autism Awareness Day April 2021. Seán Canney TD and members of the Regional Group of Independent TDs have worked with the Irish Society for Autism, and other advocacy groups to push the Bill forward and hopefully progress the Bill through 2nd stage in the Dáil.

It is now time to give hope to Autistic people and their families and finally enshrine their rights and entitlements in law.

The Irish Society for Autism worked closely with Michael McCarthy TD on the Autism Bill 2012, and with Senator Dr. James Reilly on the Autism Spectrum Disorder Bill 2017. We are committed to supporting Sean Canney TD and the Regional Group of Independent TDs in ensuring that the Autism Bill is kept on the agenda.
