NUI Galway are partners in an EU consortium of researchers who have been awarded funding by the European Commission, as part of the Horizon 2020 programme.
The project – GEMMA (Genome, Environment, Microbiome and Metabolome in Autism) – is an Autism research project which aims to develop greater understanding of the relationship between Autism and gastrointestinal symptoms, and why some children have Autism and others do not. The project will provide regular Autism assessments for infants from 0-36 months of age, who are siblings of children with Autism.
For this research they are looking for families that have a child with Autism and who are expecting a baby, or have a baby who is under 6 months old. They aim to follow the development of the baby until they are 3 years old.
Further information on the research project can be seen at https://www.icanautism.ie/
