In introducing this research, the following areas are discussed: the origins of Autism, defining/diagnosing Autism and the problems associated with its terminology, epidemiology and prevalence of Autism and other Pervasive Developmental Disorders. This study was a prevalence estimate based on a clinically referred sample of persons with Autistic Spectrum Disorder in receipt of a service, or on a waitlist for a service.
