Research Study

Research Study Research Study Entitled “The comparison of nutrient intakes and levels of abdominal pain or discomfort between adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders and healthy controls”

Orla McLaughlin as part of a Master’s in Science Degree is currently running a study to identify and compare the nutrient intakes and levels of abdominal discomfort that exist between adolescents with an Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and healthy controls and to investigate if the consumption of certain foods are linked with increased symptoms of abdominal pain in adolescents with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.

As a parent/guardian of a child with ASD, your participation will contribute to a better understanding of dietary influencers and eating behaviours in Autism.  If you agree to participate on behalf of your child you will be asked to review and sign an informed consent form and complete the following on behalf of your child:

  • 3 day food diary
  • Buie Form (behaviours that may be markers of abdominal discomfort in children with ASD)
  • ATEC (Autism Treatment Evaulation Checklist) form
