Research Study

Claire McBride is a researcher in the UCD School of Medicine. They are currently looking for parents with experience of child and adolescent mental health services to provide some feedback on resources they have developed to help explain diagnosis to young people.

The PAEDS project in UCD has investigated young people’s experience of having their mental health/neurodevelopmental diagnosis changed – There research suggests this happens to one in five children who use mental health services. Based on the research results, they have developed a range of resources (leaflets/videos) aimed at helping families understand and adapt to diagnostic changes. The resources will be made publicly available online for families and health professionals. Before launching the resources, they would like to get some feedback from parents on how useful they are and if there is any way they could be improved. They are inviting parents with experience of child and adolescent mental health services to evaluate the resources online. Evaluations are anonymous and the study has received ethical approval from UCD.

Are you a parent of a child who has a mental health or neurodevelopmental diagnosis? Help UCD researchers develop resources that explain diagnostic changes to young people!

Sometimes, for various reasons, a young person’s diagnosis might be changed. This can be confusing for young people and their families. Based on research with families across Ireland, UCD researchers have developed resources (leaflets/videos) aimed at helping families understand and adapt to diagnostic changes.

The research team are now seeking feedback on these resources from parents who use child and adolescent mental health services. The resources can be viewed and evaluated online. Evaluations are anonymous and will take about 15 minutes of your time. Your feedback will be used to improve the resources before they are made publicly available to parents and health professionals.
